What is the South Cariboo Health Foundation?

The Foundation is a British Columbia Society incorporated on February 19, 2002 and registered federally as a Charitable Foundation under number 85794 9531 RR0001. SCHF was created to support local community health facilities and health projects and to ensure that money raised or donated in our area remains in our community. The Foundation carries on its activities exclusively through public donations. The Board of Directors of the Foundation are all residents of the South Cariboo and are committed to developing & maintaining high quality health care facilities to serve our local area. The health care needs of our community continue to evolve and the demand for special medical equipment is increasing. We must be ready to meet these needs.

In order to continue to provide the quality of health care our community needs and deserves, we require ongoing support.

Should you or a close family member become acutely ill or suffer a serious accident, the 100 Mile District Hospital is here for you, to provide the necessary medical services.

Fischer Place and Mill Site Lodge provide supportive services in a residential setting for your family members when they need continuing care.

The Ministry of Health funds the daily activities of the 100 Mile District Hospital, Fischer Place, Mill Site Lodge and Community Health Care Programs. It also provides limited funds for some capital equipment. But we want to offer our patients and residents more than basic care. We need to ensure they have access to the most advanced technology, the most effective treatments, and the benefits of excellent care.

At the South Cariboo Health Foundation, we seek to build partnerships with community clubs and organizations, businesses, and people like you who share our commitment to quality health care. The Foundation’s goal is to help provide for the health of our community, and ensure that equipment and resources are available to meet the needs of patients today and in the future.



  • The population group age 65 and over in 100 Mile House and the South Cariboo is growing, placing additional pressure on services, such as cardiac and long term care.
  • Attracting and retaining highly qualified physicians, specialists and other health care professionals, is more difficult without up-to-date equipment and facilities.
  • Dramatic changes in medical care, such as day surgery, require ongoing changes to the hospital’s physical layout and associated equipment requirements.

  • Shifts in Government spending priorities will continue to challenge us to find alternative sources of funding to purchase new and replace existing equipment.
  • Changing technology, procedures and new techniques require ongoing investment in the continuing education of our medical professionals.
  • Medical discoveries push forward diagnostic testing and medical procedures that will impact the capacity of our hospital, residential and community care program.
